" V.M.I." CADET BUTTON WITH SHANK.
This button has about 98-99% Gilt remaining on the face. It was found in the "Low Country" near Charleston, S.C. This has the correct Pre-War period backmark of "D.Evans inside the Ribbon".
Contrary to what some people believe, D. Evens bought R & W Robinson in 1850. They aquired all of the button dies the Company used. The "D.Evans" within the ribbon, are the V.M.I. buttons supplied to V.M.I. from 1850 to 1860. If this was not true, V.M.I. would have had "NO" buttons for their Cadets from 1850-1860 as no one else made them. This button is absolutely period, contrary to what some unknowlegeable people believe. If this was not true, can someone tell me who made buttons for V.M.I. since R & W Robinson was bought out by D.Evans in 1850 and went out of business.
$125.
Beautiful Dug Oval Militia Buckle, Or "Crossbelt" Plate.
This Plate is the same size as my "Va." used Oval Militia Plates. Instead of being made as a "Crossbelt Plate" with the normal hook and Pin configuration, it was made with 3-hooks as a Buckle. I believe it was an exception, but may be another Militia Style. Beautiful Slick brown patina with pronounced solder marks. Found Williamsburg/Yorktown, Va. area.
$325.
BEAUTIFUL "ROUND STUD" U.S. BUCKLE.
Beautiful U.S. Buckle with the rarer "Round Studs" "Puppy Paw" buckle.  Nice lead and back. Perfect body curve. Just a top-notch buckle. Fouund near the Battlefields of Antietam, Md.
$325.
Beautiful Leech & Rigdon Confederate Tongue for a 2=Piece.
Excellent condition. Beautiful brown Patina. Just a Superb Confedreate Tongue to a Leech & Rigdon Confederate 2-piece Buckle. Found in Alabama.
$625.
Beautiful C.S.  Style "Laurel Leaf" Wreath.
Beautiful dug green Patina. Some partial cleaning. Nice visable file marks on back. Found in Tenn. on the Confederate Retreat Route from Shiloh, Tenn. to Mississippi. For a C.S., or possibly for a State Tongue. I measured the Wreath height(about 49 mm.), and Belt loop Bar height( about 48 mm.), as well as the "opening" for the Tongue(about 31 mm. long and about17 mm. tall)., and the depressed Center were the Tongue would lay in( about 31 mm.). Remember these can vary up to a Max. of  .50 mm. in variance which is virtually negligeable. I tried to measure with my Caliper the best I could. Very close to La. plate #267 in Mullinax' book. Also some other States.
$825.

COAT SIZE C.S. SCRIPT "A" BUTTON WITH SHANK.
Straight shank, "Blank" Backmark. Some minor light spots on the high relief of the "A" on the button from minor handling. Still very nice and pretty. Found in the Defence Trenches East of Richmond near Varina.
SOLD.
