Antietam Relics
I recently purchased a small part of a Collection from the family of a deceased older Relic Hunter who lived in Maryland. He lived in and did most of his hunting in the area he lived which was the area around Antietam, Sharpsburg, and Keedysville, and etc.. Not all, but on most of the items, he tagged on the reverse the Location and date he dug that item, such as, Antietam, 6/10/89. He dug all of his relics himself, and the family still lives there. If you really like items that have an honest provenace, and you have a passion for Artifacts dug at this very famous and important Battle of the Civil War, then you will particulary like these items. All of these relics, except a couple which have been noted, are guaranteed 100%, tagged or not, to have been dug in the Antietam and surrounding Campaign Battlefied area, as this is the area the Older Gentleman lived in and did most of his hunting in. I hope to be buying some more additional items from his collection soon. It will take me sometime to list what I have now due to a recent illness and I will need surgery next week, but I will try to start listing some. If you are curious as to some items I may have before I get them listed, you can Email or call me and I will tell you some of the items I have available.
Richmond Style Confederate Wreath. Most likely took the Richmond Style Spoon Type Tongue. Marked on tag " 5-3-89 Antietam" . I need to digitly measure the belt loop bars and all of the openings for the tongue to go through, and the center Wreath height. I'd like to find a tongue for this. If you have one you think will match in color, email the Specs. if you're intersted in selling it.
Has been Positivly Identified By Expert 35+ Yr. Hat Pin Colllector, Mike Singer, of Md. as definately a 19th Corps Badge.
This 19th Corps Badge was no doubt made for an Officer. It is much smaller than the standard 19th Corps Badges. It is roughly about a 1/2 inch or so tall. This would fit perfectly in proportion for an Officer with the smaller Officer's Insignia on his hat vs. the larger for enlisted. Would have looked more proportional. What is great also about this Badge is that is is made out of a heavey layered solid Gold on both sides. There is apparently an extremely thin brass center that cannot be seen unless you look at the inside of the punched hole with a jewlers glass. Not gold plated, actually bonded heavy gold layers. Gold Corps badges have got to rare. The fact that it is gold, and it's smaller size leads more credence to the fact that it was for an Officer. Found by this digger in the Winchester/Valley area.

Stamped brass. About 1 1/4 " or so tall. The top point shows where a hole was punched at the tip for sewing attachment. As can be seen the top of the hole wore through. I believe it had a pin device that went from the two wide star points across. There is a sliver of solder left in one of the side star point tips. I believe when the pin broke off, it probably broke the solder joint clean from the brass, like the solder joint popped off clean with the pin. Found by the digger of this collection in Maryland, but not in the Antietam area. A beautiful and rare piece. The 12th Corps was on Top of Culp's Hill at rhe Battle of Gettysburg.

Intertwined "U.S.A." Rossette. Labled " 1992-Tulip Hill, Fredreick, Md.". Bent with some damage, but still a rare rossette.

Carbine Sling Buckle with Belt Tip End(Batwig). Labled "Frederic, Md."

Another Confederate Clip Corner Buckle. This one has had some slits put in the center to take some type of Emblem. Most likely some type of State Seal. I would love to know what was on it. I bet it was one hell of a Buckle. I bet it was a Geogia Seal. I guess it might be possible to match up the holes with one in a buckle book. I haven't tried that yet, but I might Now.. Labled "July 4, 1991 /Sharpsburg/Maryland" and something else by the digger. This really is a quite cool and rare Clip Corner since it definately was adapted to take a State Seal attached at the time.Very rare and neat.
